The unit will help learners to prepare for a work placement. They will find out key facts about the organisation providing the placement, the role they will be undertaking, the working hours and the attitudes and behaviours that will be expected of them.

Learners will be expected to:

• Know the function of the company/organisation where they plan to do their placement
• Know what is expected of them during the placement, including hours of work, job role and attitudes and behaviours
• Prepare a list of goals which includes skills development, to help them get the most out of the work placement.

Work placement provides learners with the ideal opportunity to gain valuable workplace skills and increase their knowledge of a vocational area. This unit has been designed to help the learner reflect on the work placement and identify how the experience can be used to further their career development.

• Be able to gather evidence of tasks undertaken on a work placement
• Understand what they learned from the work placement and how it can contribute to further development
• Be able to use learning from the work placement to set personal goals.
