Sue Threlfall – Health and Safety
Sue Threlfall is a 39-year-old single parent from Bolton, Sue works in admin at the moment and hopes to start her own business one day.
Sue was browsing on the Internet looking for courses in her area when she came across the vision2learn website. She was immediately attracted to vision2learn’s Health and Safety programme as she felt it would be a great general course for furthering her career.
Sue said: "I was searching on the Internet one day, looking at local colleges and universities for inspiration for a course of study – I didn’t really know what course I wanted to complete at the time! I came across vision2learn during my searches."
"I chose the Health and Safety course as I felt it would be a useful addition to the HNC Computing and Business Studies qualifications I already hold, and would hopefully help in my employment, whether it’s self–employment or for an employer."
Sue gained lots of new skills and knowledge from the course. She commented:
"I think vision2learn’s Health and Safety course will be useful to me at work, as well as helping at home. It has shown me the importance of keeping standards in relation to safety matters, and it has been easy to utilise some of my new-found knowledge at home and work already!"
"Through studying online I have also been able to fit my study time around my family’s needs, and to prioritise and research into the subject without the interruptions that you often experience in a classroom environment."
Sue added: "I found that learning online was a more relaxing experience. I liked being able to set my own timetable and study as and when it suited me. I also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere that I could create for myself whilst studying; I regularly played music by my favourite artists! I loved not having to travel to get to a college, one of the perks being that I could research at my own pace and when I left my research I didn’t have to pack everything away."
Sue really benefited from the help and support offered by her online tutor. She commented:
"Having my own online tutor felt like I had a ‘safety net’ there to catch me if I had any problems. During the course, it felt as if a sort of relationship builds up between student and tutor, and you get to know what is going to be expected from your assignments as time goes on. I liked the comments that my tutor would write at the end of each assignment when they were returned – it definitely helps to give a personal touch!"
Sue is keen to recommend learning online with vision2learn. She said:
"I would definitely recommend taking an online course to anyone who is considering studying – especially if they feel their life is ‘too busy’ for study! I was able to complete this course in my own time, whilst working and raising my family – without anything having to be put on a back burner."
