Richard Dalby – IT programmes
Twenty–two–year–old Richard Dalby lives with his Dad in a small village near Scarborough. Richard works as a Police Community Support Officer. In his spare time he enjoys playing and watching football, going to the gym,
walking and playing computer games.
Richard’s Dad told him about vision2learn, as he was really keen to further his education, but couldn’t afford to pay for a course. Vision2learn’s free online courses were ideal for his needs. Richard said:
"I chose to do an intermediate level IT course as I already had a better than basic knowledge of computers and some software, but wanted to further my knowledge and understanding of other types of software. The subjects that this course provided were the ideal ones for me to learn and advance my computer knowledge."
Learning online meant that Richard could fit study around his job.
"As I work shifts, it’s very difficult for me to do any other type of course. I am unable to go to college as these courses are often in the morning when I work. I saw an online course as the ideal way to study without disrupting my work life."
Richard also found that there were many other advantages to online learning. He said:
"Having the ability to do the work whenever I wanted to was a great incentive – I wasn’t tied down to a schedule. The course was very useful in helping me gain some self discipline through allotting myself time to do the specific work and sticking to it."
"I now have a very good understanding of Microsoft Office, email and the Internet that would have taken me a long time to achieve by myself."
Richard has the following advice for others considering studying with vision2learn:
"It’s a good system to use, the pages are presented well, the site is easy to navigate around and the tutors are very helpful and easy to contact should you need them. There is also a lot of help around the website as well."
"I would definitely consider doing another course with vision2learn as I feel it’s a very good way to learn something new and be totally in control of how and when you do it."
