Elva Young – IT programmes / Health and Safety

Elva Young Forty–three–year–old Elva Young lives in Keighley in West Yorkshire. Elva really enjoys learning new skills online and recently finished her third online course with vision2learn. She has completed vision2learn’s Health and Safety course, as well as two vision2learn IT programmes. Elva said:

"I enjoy doing online courses as they fit in with my life and I can work at my own pace."
"I signed up for the free IT courses as I wanted to be more comfortable using my computer, improve my job prospects and eventually get a better job or promotion."

E–learning has helped Elva to continue learning despite difficult circumstances in her work and home life. She commented:

"I chose to study online rather than going to college as I could fit it around my job. However, I then became ill and am house bound most of the time, so it was much easier to work from home. All the information is online at your finger tips and I could work at my own pace."

Having the ability to continue learning and improving herself has really boosted Elva’s confidence.

"I loved the fact that I could work at my own pace without the fear of being left behind. It was great not having to travel to college and having on-hand support from my online tutor."
"Initially, I just wanted to improve on my computer skills, but I enjoyed the course so much I just carried on learning. I can use my computer without having to continually call for help and it has given me a lot more confidence."

If she came across any difficulties during the course, Elva could rely on her online tutor for help and support. She added:

"As I had a very limited knowledge of using my computer, my first IT course was very challenging. However, with the help of my tutor these problems were soon overcome, as I could contact her direct and she was always willing to help."
"My tutor emailed me often and if I had any problems she would offer advice on where to get further information."

The flexibility of e-learning has helped Elva to continue learning despite various set-backs. She is planning to study on a third vision2learn IT programme and is a great example of what you can achieve when you put your mind to it!
