Deborah Dawes – IT programmes
Forty–four–year–old Deborah Dawes from Willenhall in the West Midlands is a teaching assistant for children aged 3 to 5. In her spare time she enjoys DIY and Yoga.
As a teaching assistant, Deborah helps the kids in her class to use computers. She also has two young children who use the computer at home. Deborah decided she wanted to learn how to get the best out of her PC, she told us:
"I wanted to learn more about my computer in order to help my children at home and the kids at work."
"I considered online learning as it meant working when it was convenient for me. I found out about vision2learn through the local press, visited the website and signed up for a free intermediate level IT course straight away."
Deborah’s confidence in using her PC has really improved. She said: "I have learnt to do things that others may consider basic, but which I couldn’t do before. I now feel much more confident and am even doing ICT lessons for 3 to 5 year olds."
Deborah enjoyed the flexibility and freedom of learning online. She added:
"Studying online meant that I had the freedom to do as much in one session as I wished. I could leave the course when I’d had enough and come back when refreshed. I enjoyed it much more than learning in a classroom."
If Deborah came across any difficulties on her course, she could contact her online tutor for help and advice at any time.
"I was able to seek advice from my tutor when I needed to, and also when I found areas of the course difficult, my tutor encouraged me to keep going."
Deborah added: "I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend online learning. You can choose which course suits your needs best and can also contact your tutor as and when required. I’m keen to further improve my knowledge with another IT course."
